Patrick Burns is Director of Vertical Marketing for Symantec Corporation. Based in Symantec’s east coast headquarters in Herndon, Virginia, he manages all marketing operations for Symantec’s Public Sector, Healthcare, Telecommunications, Financial Services, and Power & Energy sales markets.

His more than 20-year career in corporate communications and marketing includes experience in public relations, advertising, and news reporting. Prior to joining Symantec Corporation, he served as Senior Communications Manager for VeriSign, Inc. where he led VeriSign’s public sector marketing communications and helped expand the company’s marketing footprint in RFID technology and global Internet operations in Europe and Asia.

Before joining VeriSign, he was Director of Communications for The NASDAQ Stock Market, where he helped market and promote the expanding NASDAQ market trading system during its explosive growth of the 1990s. Prior to NASDAQ, he worked as a reporter and bureau chief for Futures World News in their London and New York offices covering futures and commodities trading and conducting more than 1,000 interviews with finance executives from around the world. He was also Professor of Journalism and English for Central Texas College for five years and served as faculty advisor to the college’s student newspaper.

Patrick holds a B.S. in Journalism degree from West Virginia University; an M.A. degree in English from George Mason University and a Master of International Journalism degree from Baylor University. He serves as adjunct Professor of English at George Mason University and lives in Vienna, Virginia with his wife Carla and their two children.
